Rainbow Trust Foundation Enhances Capacity to Promote Literacy in Ghana Through Book Aid International’s Partnership Development Program (PDP) Learning Event in Kenya: March 13-15, 2023
The Rainbow Trust Foundation, a non-governmental organization with the objective of improving children’s access to quality education in Ghana, was selected to participate in a Partnership Development Program (PDP) Learning Event in Kenya from 13th – 15th March, 2023. The event, organized by Book Aid International, UK, a major partner of the Rainbow Trust Foundation, aimed to bring together library and education partners to share knowledge and build skills and capacity to run programs that enable communities to access books and read in their respective countries.
Represented by the CEO, Madam Joyce Ampofo, and the Head of Program, Mr. Edmund Nii Adjetey Badu, the Rainbow Trust Foundation participated in the event with enthusiasm and zeal, ready to learn and improve their capacity to create a culture of literacy and provide access to reading and learning materials.
On the first day of the training, Monday, 13th March, 2023, the Rainbow Trust Foundation delegates were taught Training Basics, which included being a great learner, planning training, adapting content for the audience, evaluating training, and training techniques to enhance engagement. The day ended with a Gallery Walk, where participants shared a Reading Promotion initiative that they had implemented in their respective countries and were particularly proud of. The Gallery Walk was graced by the CEO of Book Aid International, UK, Alison Tweed, who was impressed with the work of the Rainbow Trust Foundation.
On the second day, Tuesday, 14th March, 2023, the delegates learned Monitoring and Evaluation Basics, Safeguarding, and Consent. They also had a tour of the Kenya National Library Service (KNLS), Main library, which is a brand-new national library with good practice in collection development, book processing/technical services, and book provision. They also visited KNLS KIBERA Branch, a public library in a high-density/low-income area that has run Book Aid International projects and has innovative library services. They also visited the MYSA Mathare Library, an NGO-run community library in high-density/low-income areas, with a wealth of experience in fundraising and integration of the library with other community development initiatives.
On the last day, Wednesday, 15th March, 2023, the facilitators took feedback from participants from the site visit, created a Community of Practice, learned how to write impactful reporting, and ended the workshop with a wrap-up and final evaluation.
The Rainbow Trust Foundation left the PDP Learning Event with a wealth of knowledge and skills that they plan to apply in their work in Ghana. The event provided them with the opportunity to network with other library and education partners, learn best practices from other countries, and improve their capacity to create a culture of literacy and provide access to reading and learning materials.
The Rainbow Trust Foundation is grateful to Book Aid International, UK, for the opportunity to participate in the PDP Learning Event and looks forward to partnering with them and other organizations to improve children’s access to quality education in Ghana.
