Toilet Facility by Rainbow Trust foundation

Rainbow Trust Foundation and Poul Due Jensen Foundation Improve Water and Sanitation at Anhwiam D/A Basic School

Pupils and teachers of Anhwiam D/A Basic School in the Ningo-Prampram District of the Greater Accra Region have received a major boost in their learning environment following the commissioning of a newly constructed eight-seater toilet facility and a mechanized borehole.

The life-changing intervention was undertaken by the Rainbow Trust Foundation in partnership with the Poul Due Jensen Foundation of Denmark as part of ongoing efforts to improve access to quality education, safe water, and sanitation facilities in underserved communities across Ghana.

For many years, Anhwiam D/A Basic School operated without a dedicated toilet facility, creating significant sanitation challenges for both pupils and staff. The lack of access to safe and hygienic sanitation facilities posed health risks and negatively impacted the overall teaching and learning environment.

Recognizing the urgent need to address these challenges, the Rainbow Trust Foundation, with support from the Poul Due Jensen Foundation, implemented a comprehensive Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) project at the school. The project involved the construction of a modern eight-seater toilet block and the installation of a mechanized borehole to provide a reliable supply of clean and safe drinking water.

The newly commissioned facilities are expected to significantly improve hygiene standards within the school, promote healthy practices among pupils, and reduce the incidence of waterborne and sanitation-related diseases. The availability of clean water will also support daily school activities and enhance the overall well-being of both students and teachers.

The Poul Due Jensen Foundation, the philanthropic arm of the global water solutions company Grundfos, has long been committed to improving access to water and sanitation in vulnerable communities around the world. Through its partnership with the Rainbow Trust Foundation, the organization continues to contribute meaningfully to sustainable community development initiatives in Ghana.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, stakeholders praised the collaboration between the two organizations and highlighted the importance of investing in basic infrastructure to create an enabling environment for quality education. They noted that access to clean water and proper sanitation is essential for improving school attendance, academic performance, and the health of children.

Beyond addressing immediate water and sanitation needs, the project reflects the shared commitment of both organizations to empowering communities through sustainable development interventions. The mechanized borehole is expected to serve not only the school but also provide an important source of potable water for members of the surrounding community.

The Rainbow Trust Foundation has consistently demonstrated its commitment to improving educational outcomes through strategic partnerships with international development organizations, corporate institutions, and community stakeholders. In addition to water and sanitation projects, the Foundation continues to support literacy and educational development through the establishment of libraries, the provision of learning materials, and other child-centered interventions.

Through initiatives such as the Anhwiam D/A Basic School WASH Project, the Rainbow Trust Foundation and the Poul Due Jensen Foundation are helping to create healthier, safer, and more conducive learning environments for children, ensuring that every child has the opportunity to learn, grow, and thrive.
